Junior Wetland Scientist






Strategic Environment Focus (Pty) Ltd – Head office situated in Pretoria seeks to employ a self-motivated, multi-faceted Junior Wetland Scientist to join our team and become an integral part of our continued success story. The ideal candidate should have a background in wetland functional assessments, wetland mitigation, plant and wildlife identification, soils characterisation and permit preparation. The candidate MUST have experience in wetland delineations, mitigation and habitat assessments.

ü  BSc Hons in Botany or Soil Science (must have a strong interest in both Botany and Soil Science);

ü  1 – 2 years relevant experience;

ü  Experience in ecological/biodiversity assessments and wetland delineations will be advantageous;

ü  Have undertaken relevant wetland course preferable.

ü  Knowledge of field data collection and GPS technology is desirable.

ü  A min of 1 – 2 years’ experience within a consulting environment preferable, but not essential;

ü  Computer proficiency (MS Office);

ð  Provide service and feedback to external as well as internal clients

ð  Ensure that information about SEF products and services offered are communicated accurately as and when required

ð  Motivate for and Attend relevant training courses


Coordinate, Execute and Control strategic development objectives to maximize growth


ð  Involved in the collection, preparation, analysis and interpretation of data to quantify and qualify the necessary technical environmental reports

ð  Responsible for aquatic bio monitoring and ecotoxicology reserve determinants, related research and biodiversity assessments.

ð  Carry out wetland delineations and wetland functional assessments

ð  Management and implementation of Bio monitoring Programmes

ð  Advises companies/clients on the environmental impact based on findings and various regulations in area of speciality.

ð  Perform Specialist Environmental Assessments; including:

  • Wetland delineations according to legislated methodologies;
  • Assess wetland functionality, Present Ecological Status and Ecological Importance and Sensitivity.

ð  Conduct soil, hydrology and vegetation inventory, and plant identifications.

ð  Complete permit compliance monitoring.

ð  Document and summarize results of field investigations and analyses.

ð  Prepare plans, specifications, maps, exhibits and supporting documentation for client and regulatory approvals.

ð  Evaluate site conditions and select wetlands identification, mitigation and regulatory approval strategies.

ð  Work independently and be responsible for planning and coordinating projects.
